enStratus officially added support today for the Eucalyptus platform to the arsenal of cloud environments that we support. Eucalyptus is a cloud orchestration layer that organizes your virtualized servers into clusters and exposes them to tools like enStratus via a web services API. With Eucalyptus and virtualization technologies like Xen, KVM, and VMware, you can turn your private data center into an internal cloud.
One key advantage of Eucalyptus is that it makes your private data center look a lot like Amazon Web Services. It translates your virtualization tier into instances, security groups, elastic IPs, machine images, volumes, and snapshots and enables you to operate your private cloud just like you operate your AWS public cloud. With enStratus + Eucalyptus, you get all of the benefits of managing your private cloud infrastructure that you have in managing your public cloud infrastructure.
If you are an existing Eucalyptus customer, you finally have a cloud infrastructure management option geared towards the need of private and hybrid clouds. enStratus supports critical enterprise features such as:
- Financials controls and budget management
- User management with rich, customizable roles and access rights
- Extension of user management to the virtual machines operating in your public and private clouds
- Integration of cloud management with existing IT infrastructure management processes
- Posting of cloud health information to existing infrastructure management tools
- On-premise as well as SaaS deployment models
- Cross-cloud management, including Eucalyptus private clouds, AWS, Azure, Rackspace, ReliaCloud, and Terremark
- Key management
Of course, you also get everything you expect from a cloud infrastructure management system, like:
- Provisioning and de-provisioning of cloud resources
- Rich meta-data including user-friendly naming, color labeling, and descriptions
- Application configuration and deployment
- Auto-recovery and auto-scaling
We support all features of Eucalyptus out of the gate. In addition, we make it possible to assign costs to your private cloud virtualized resources and track internal costs using enStratus billing codes from your finance system.
When you combine a Eucalyptus private cloud, enStratus, and the public cloud of your choice, you'll see the real power behind the enStratus/Eucalyptus relationship. Today, you get a unified view of your private and public clouds with common user management with the rich role-based access controls that enStratus provides. In May, we will enable you to automate cloud bursting out of your Eucalyptus cloud into your public cloud of choice by defining your private cloud resource limits and enabling auto-scaling beyond those limits into one or more public clouds.
We're very excited about our partnership with Eucalyptus and look forward to helping customers successfully deploy and manage private and hybrid cloud environments using enStratus + Eucalyptus.
